Rail Mounted Solar System VS. Rail-less Solar Mounting System Dec 07, 2023

Rail mounting solar roof system and Rail-less solar roof mounting are two common types of solar roof mounting systems. Rail mounting involves securing metal rails to the roof and then securing the solar modules to the rails. Rail-less Mounting, on the other hand, secures the modules directly to the roof to support the solar modules. This article will describe the characteristics of both roof mounting systems.

 solar roof mounting systems

1. Rail Mounting Solar Roof System

The system is mounted on the roof using metal rails to which the solar panels are fastened with clamps and bolts. The clamps slide on the rails, allowing the position and angle of the solar panels to be fine-tuned.

Advantage:

Stability: the rails provide additional support and stability, and the solar panels are more securely mounted.

Flexibility: The position and angle of the solar panels can be adjusted to maximize the solar energy they receive.

Duct Hiding: Rails can be used to hide solar cables and ducts for a more aesthetically pleasing installation.

2. Rail-less Solar Roof Mounting

The system uses special clamps and bolts to attach the solar panels directly to the roof, eliminating the need for additional rails.

Advantage:

simplifies installation: Rail-less mounting systems are usually simple in construction, making the installation process faster and more efficient.

Reduces costs: there is no need to purchase and install additional track, reducing system costs.

Aesthetics: The Rail-less system allows the solar panels to be closer to the roof for a neater and more aesthetically pleasing overall appearance.

The difference between the two system

1.  Many installers favor rail mounts in applications that require greater stability, odd roof shapes, or more difficult installations. There is slightly less customization than with rail mount systems.

2.  Rail-less systems do require more pre-planning to properly lay out and level the brackets. However, if done properly, the entire installation process will be quicker and easier than a railed system.

3. Installers and experience with rail mounted systems will have more experience than with rail-less installations, and there are more rail-mounted manufacturers.

4.Rail-less installation requires fewer components and is more aesthetically pleasing overall. And the weight of the rail-less mounting system is lighter compared to the railed mounting.

 KLIP-LOK 406 Clamp

The most widely used is still the railed rooftop installation. Standard rail solar mounting systems are still the preferred choice of homeowners because they offer the most flexibility in system design and have a long history of success in the industry.Powerack not only offers a wide variety of rail-mounted solar solutions, it allows us to customize the system design to best meet the aesthetic and financial needs of our customers. We also offer rail-less installations, like our KLIP-LOK 406 Clamp POW-TRB-C29, for a variety of options.
