On 6 February 2024, the European Council and the European Parliament reached an important agreement on the fight against climate change. The Net Zero Industries Act (NZIA) sets a benchmark for the EU to meet 40% of the expected demand for clean technologies by 2030. In addition to onshore and offshore wind, hydro and geothermal, that figure includes solar. The EU's solar strategy aims to expand solar power capacity from 263 gigawatts (GW) today to nearly 600 GW by 2030, an increase of more than 140 percent that would make solar the largest source of electricity in the EU.
